Appeals Policy
Introduction
Whilst on-programme at Multiverse, apprentices are expected to produce a wide range of apprenticeship work ranging from assignments, presentations and reflective work. All work of this nature will be marked internally at Multiverse by the apprentice’s coach. If an apprentice does not agree with the decision of their coach in relation to the marking of an internally completed piece of work at Multiverse, the internal appeals procedure at Multiverse may be used.
Either on-programme, at the end of programme or in both instances, apprentices will be externally assessed by external awarding organisations to ensure that they are able to complete their programmes and to determine the final grade of the apprentice. These assessments are known as on-programme assessments (for those completed on-programme) and end point assessment (for those completed at the end of programme.
All work of this nature is marked externally by the relevant awarding organisation in accordance with their own marking and quality assurance procedures. If an apprentice does not agree with the decision of the awarding organisation in relation to the marking of an externally completed assessment, they may make an appeal in accordance with the appeals procedures of the relevant awarding organisation.
Procedure
This procedure sets out the process of making an appeal against an internal assessment decision within Multiverse.
The information in this procedure is not applicable to any external appeals that are made directly to an awarding organisation. If an individual or party wishes to make an external appeal, they should refer to the appeals policy of the relevant awarding organisation as well as any related appeal guidance from Multiverse. These resources will be made available upon request.
Please see below for the process that must be followed when making an internal appeal to Multiverse. This process must be followed in order to guarantee appeal acceptance and ensure that the appeal is investigated by Multiverse.
- An apprentice wishing to appeal an internal assessment decision must first discuss the reasons for the appeal with their coach.
- If the apprentice remains dissatisfied with the decision reached, they should complete section 1 of the appeals form (this will be made available upon request) and submit this to their coach. This must be completed within 5 working days of receiving the assessment decision.
- The coach will arrange for the Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) to review and reconsider the assessment decision.
- The IQA will notify the apprentice of their decision within 5 working days of receiving the appeal using section 2 of the appeals form.
- If the apprentice remains dissatisfied with the reconsidered assessment decision. The IQA will forward the appeal documentation to the External Quality Assurer (EQA) or Standards Verifier (SV) of the relevant awarding organisation.
- The EQA or SV of the awarding organisation will reconsider the assessment decision and will report back to the IQA in writing within 28 working days of the appeal being received.
- The IQA will report back to the apprentice with the decision of the EQA or SV. The decision of the EQA or SV is final.
