Multiverse team up with AdeptID to utilize machine learning for equitable talent matching

Today we’re delighted to announce a new partnership with AdeptID, the leading provider of talent matching software for the workforce without college degrees. Together we’ll use their machine learning models to scale up and optimize our processes for matching apprentices with employers.

At Multiverse, we’re obsessed by two things: equitable hiring and data-driven decision making. They are essential to delivering our mission of creating a diverse group of future leaders and this new partnership will help us make progress on both of them.

We fundamentally believe there is no link between academic achievement and job performance. In the US, degree requirements in job ads screen out 67% of black Americans and 79% of Hispanic Americans. Talent is everywhere but opportunity often is not.

Our belief has always been that the things that actually correlate to job performance are around character, grit, conscientiousness and willingness to learn. Too often grades are a function of how good someone’s school was rather than their actual potential.

We built our model of matching apprentices to employers to include that more inclusive definition of potential. Our work with 

 will help us to put new layers of data analysis behind the model.

So far we’ve placed thousands of apprentices in their first roles. They are hugely talented, and come from a 

. Getting to tens of thousands, and eventually hundreds of thousands, will require a larger scale. AdeptID’s technology helps us set up a “feedback loop” so that we are continuously learning from these placement outcomes to make better recommendations.

The team at AdeptID brings a rigorous and responsible approach to machine learning to help identify talent in those without college degrees. Most importantly, they align totally to our mission. Learn more about their approach here.

It’s National Apprenticeship Week and it’s great to see the spotlight on amazing apprentices and high quality apprenticeship programmes. At Multiverse, we continually talk about building an outstanding alternative to university. The incredible careers our apprentices are pursuing and the experience they’re getting are evidence of how this can be achieved. This week is an opportunity to celebrate their hard work, the contributions they are making to their employers, the investment companies are making in their talent, and the importance of building a world class system for applied learning that helps fill the skills gap and sets our country up for long term success.

On 25th February, WhiteHat hosted leading HR professionals for dinner at Quo Vadis, Soho, to discuss the key issues companies are facing at the moment. With attendees from BP, Google and The Go-Ahead Group, amongst others, the conversation covered numerous prevailing themes, including the digital skills gap, gender pay gap, perceptions of apprenticeships, and, inevitably, the impact of Brexit.

We’re seeing a change in how apprenticeships are being perceived. The Department of Education launched its groundbreaking ‘Fire It Up’ campaign in January. April marks the 24 months since the levy was introduced. And we can see that employers are increasingly embracing apprenticeships, incorporating them as a key part of their recruitment, diversity and inclusion strategies.

On 17th October WhiteHat and Frazer Jones hosted a jam-packed breakfast event 

 to mark the six month countdown to funds in the apprenticeship levy beginning to expire. Over sixty representatives from HR, talent and management filled the room for a lively panel discussion and Q&A about the apprenticeship levy and strategies for using it before losing it.

Earlier this week, the WhiteHat offices played host to what will be the first of many roundtables focused on tackling the issues facing hiring managers today. This first session saw us invite hiring managers from GP Bullhound, Manzanita Capital, Improbable and TritonExec to share their highs, pain points and insights around the Future of Finance. A lot of ground was covered, but we’ve condensed the key takeaways into easily digested tips, that we hope will inform your finance team hiring strategies.
